Castle Frankopan was rebuilt by Nikola Frankopan in 1412 from a more ancient structure. Before that, there was the castle, built in the XII century by princes Frankopan.
From the fortress over time, little has survived, and in the early fifteenth century, Nikola Frankopan has restored the castle, and at the same time the internal structures and the building of the Church of Blessed virgin Mary. After the restoration the castle was given to the friars of the order Paulino. The monastery is linked to the nearby fishing village and became the center of cultural and social life of the district. For a long time there was an orphanage. Currently the castle is fully restored and converted into a hotel.
The family of Frankopan – old Croatian noble family. In medieval times they owned many lands in this territory. In particular, the Northern Islands, Dalmatian coast and Princes etc. actively participated in politics. Members of this family repeatedly became ban of Croatia.
The castle is located right on the Bay. Above the main five-story building of the castle of white stone with tiled roofs, tower. Literally a few meters from it, there are outdoor cafes and the beach. Here you can relax and rent a boat or a yacht and take a fascinating boat trip.
