The natural history Museum and Botanical garden in Dijon is located within a large municipal Park with an area of about five acres, of which two hectares is occupied by the Botanical garden.

The garden is called Arquebus, since the Park was founded in the XVI century for the knights, who on his vast practiced firing arquebus – some of the first firearms with smooth-bore guns with matchlock lock. This activity was so popular that even the competitions among shooters. Once a year in August on the day of St. Bartholomew targets the gunners became the parrots, and the winner of this tournament during the year had the title "king of birds".

At the end of XVIII century there was a garden in the English style, which in 1803 was transferred to municipal ownership. Even thirty years later it was moved plants from other Botanical gardens Dijon, founded in 1771, the writer Benin de Erlanom.

Currently in the Botanical garden there are about 4,000 species of plants, most of which represent the flora of Burgundy and other French regions. Just over a thousand species represent other countries of the world, including other States of the Mediterranean and subtropical belt. In the garden is also home to several species of waterfowl, and a school of botany.

Located in the Park Museum of natural history was founded in 1836. It is located in the pavilion, which housed a company of Riflemen from arquebus. Today the Museum possesses a rich collection of geological and paleontological profile and the collections of insects and animals. The Museum has permanent and temporary exhibitions that use interactive technology. In addition, in the Park is the city planetarium. All this natural complex is located near the station of Dijon.
