The natural history Museum and Botanical garden in Dijon is located within a large municipal Park with an area of about five acres, of which two hectares is occupied by the Botanical garden.

The garden is called Arquebus, since the Park was founded in the XVI century for the knights, who on his vast practiced firing arquebus – some of the first firearms with smooth-bore guns with matchlock lock. This activity was so popular that even the competitions among shooters. Once a year in August on the day of St. Bartholomew targets the gunners became the parrots, and the winner of this tournament during the year had the title "king of birds".
