One of the main attractions of the city of Donetsk Botanical garden is located on the highway Makeyevka, along Bogodukhov beams. This picturesque corner of its size, 262, 2 hectares, ranks first in Europe.

The city's Botanical gardens was founded in June 1964 as a research Institute for the study of applied and fundamental problems of biology of South-Eastern Ukraine. In 1983 this majestic gardens received the status of a monument and Botanical garden of national importance. A year later he was awarded the silver medal of the UN for work done for the protection of nature. In December 2001, the plant collections of the garden was given the status of "National heritage of Ukraine".

One of the main outcomes of this garden is the creation of collections of plants protected and open ground, which demonstrate the diversity of the flora of different regions of the globe.

At the Botanical garden grows more than 5 thousand species of exotic plants, and under the glass is as much as 1200 square feet that allow you to organize 5 greenhouses with exotic plants and for them to imitate all conditions of the tropics and subtropics.

The collection of the Botanical garden consists of approximately 70 species of plants protected at the international level, up to 90 species that are protected at the regional level, and also there are 97 species of plants listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. Thanks to this rich collection of garden blooms from early spring to late autumn.

In its structure the Botanical garden is divided into 4 divisions, staffed by different research groups. The Department of dendrology and floriculture, Department of flora, Department of mobilization of various plant resources and the division of industrial botany.

Despite all the environmental difficulties of Donbass, thanks to this big green treasure as the Botanical garden, Donetsk is considered one of the well landscaped industrial cities of Ukraine.

Botanical garden of Donetsk is open for its visitors from may to November, and for lovers of tropical and subtropical plants the guided tours are available all year round.
