Covered market of the city of Donetsk is located at Shevchenko street, 6. The people he has two more names: "Central market" and "farmers market". It is called Central, as it is located in the city center, and farm - in Soviet times it was almost the only place in the centre, where he came farm machines with fruits and vegetables.

For a long time, since the beginning of its construction, few knew that its base market owes much to Joseph Stalin. And subsequently, the market for 37 consecutive years was named after him. Completed the indoor market was in 1961.

After the war, the need arose for the construction of the great market hall in Stalino. May 18, 1949, a meeting of the Executive Committee, when the then assessor Vasily Ferapontova, where this question was examined. And the year before, the Academy of Architecture of the Ukrainian SSR was developed at the scientific and technical plan for the construction of covered markets in Stalino and Kiev. But since the funds for both projects was not enough, the construction of the capital began in 1949, and the regional center was forced to wait.

In may 1952 the resolution of the USSR Council of Ministers, one of which was an order of Stalin the Executive Committee from 1953 to begin construction of the covered market. Funds for the construction were provided from royalties fees from regional markets to the local budget. Thus, Stalin's indoor market was built at the expense of the regional markets.

Today this facility is an architectural monument. But along with this it functions as a market, though inferior to the other, new and more extensive in its size and range of goods. In addition to retail locations and warehouses, there is a McDonalds restaurant, and recently opened near and lower indoor market.
