The chapel is the burial-vault of the Paskevich princes – example of respectful reverence to the father of the son of field Marshal I. F. Paskevich. A worthy son of an illustrious father erected for the ancestors and descendants of the family of the tomb-chapel on the ground of the Cathedral of Peter and Paul, not far from his estate.

F. I. Paskevich of merit for Gomel and charities in 1888 was made an honorary citizen of the city of Gomel. In return for permission to arrange the family tomb, Fedor Ivanovich helped to strengthen the Bank of the river on which stood the Church of Peter and Paul. The slope was tempted water, and its collapse threatened to bring down the Cathedral.

Being a patron and connoisseur of the arts, Fedor Ivanovich attracted to the drafting of a family chapel of the most interesting architects, sculptors, painters. An initial draft has been academician architect E. I. Chervinsky. It was decided to make the chapel in the Russian style of the XVII century. Exterior and interior décor was designed by an artist who worked with Montferrand in St. Petersburg A. H. PEL. It's amazing how many famous artists had a hand in this chapel, which is called the eighth wonder of the world.

The construction lasted 19 years. The result is a unique architectural masterpiece. The square plan tower 18 meters high covered with an octagonal tent and topped with Golden onion domes. The underground part - vaulted tunnel with a length of 32 meters lined with crushed stone. Here is the amazing beauty of mosaic depicting soaring in the azure sky of the Seraphim. Presumably, this mural was made in the workshop of V. A. Frolov, which produced decorative elements for the Savior on spilled Blood.

In the crypt are buried eight representatives of the genus Paskevich. The last was a young lady-in-waiting of the Imperial court 18 years. She fell off a horse and died.

Unfortunately, during the great Patriotic war, the chapel was badly damaged. In 1968-75, attempted restoration, unfortunately, it was not completed. To restore the chapel of promises in the near future the administration of the city of Gomel.
