The scenic village of Zagora is situated on the slopes of mount Pelion at an altitude of 480 m above sea level (region of Thessaly). This is a traditional Greek village with numerous evergreen old mansions and cobblestone streets, as well as one of the largest settlements of Pelion.

The first written mention of the settlement found in "Aesop's fables" (6th century BC). During the Byzantine Empire the city was actively developing and already had its own port in coastal Chorefto. The peak of the bloom fell on 17-18 century, when Zagora became an important trade, industrial and cultural center. Special demand was made here gorgeous silk in great quantities exported to different countries. Strong trade and cultural ties with European countries has been beneficial to the prosperity of the city and its intellectual development.

Today, the picturesque town is very popular among tourists. Here you will find a good choice of comfortable hotels and apartments, excellent local taverns and cafes with excellent cuisine, stunning beauty of nature and relaxing atmosphere.

Among the main attractions of Zagora is to provide beautiful Church of Agia Paraskevi (1803), Agia Georgios (1765), Agia Kyriaki (1740), the monastery of the Transfiguration (the monument of the Byzantine era), school of the Museum of Rigas and famous Library of Zagora, which houses thousands of rare old books and valuable manuscripts. There is a huge interest and lots of gorgeous well-preserved ancient buildings that date back to 17-18 centuries and are important historical monuments.

Beach lovers should definitely visit the nearby popular resort of Agios Ioannis beach, which is a multiple winner of the blue flag of UNESCO. However, near Zagora you will find quite a lot of nice beaches.
