"Golden Roof" - the emblem of Innsbruck. This building was built under Duke Friedrich IV in the early fifteenth century. In 1494-1496 other than the addition of a Bay window from which it was possible to observe the tournaments and performances that took place in the square. The roof of the Bay window rests on two elegant columns and decorated with 2657 small gilded copper tiles, hence its name.
The walls are decorated with wonderful paintings and reliefs of Sandstone, depicting the amazing animals, the Imperial profile, emblems of States and famous families. Previously, this building was the first residence of the Habsburgs, now is a Museum telling about the Habsburgs and the life of Emperor Maximilian I.
