Mount Pagosa majestically from the Izmir-preserved ruins of the castle built by Lysimachus and rebuilt in the fourth century by the Byzantines. The castle is a fine observation point, overlooking the magnificent panorama of the Gulf of Izmir.

The local Bishop Polycarp was martyred in Kadifekale by the Romans in 155 BC. According to the legend, when I tried to burn the Saint, the flame was not affected and they had to stab his victim with a sharp dagger. The Church of St. Polycarp was rebuilt in 1620 by Suleiman the Great and is the oldest building in Izmir.
