The oldest building of Kaliningrad is the former Catholic and then Lutheran Church and the Juditten Lutheran Church, located on the outskirts of the historic city. In our days, the building is the St. Nicholas Church at the convent.
Date of construction of the building is not known, the first written mention dates back to the year 1288, when the Catholic Church with a rich interior was consecrated as the Church of the virgin Mary. It was decorated with an altar and painted murals, made of gold, and the object of pilgrimage served as the miraculous statue of the virgin Mary standing on a Crescent moon, for several centuries miraculously esclava from ailments. The Church was partially built of large boulders, partly of brick. To our days also survived several elements of the decoration of the facades in the form of coats of arms of Grand masters of the Teutonic order. Near the Church was the cemetery of prominent citizens of the city (partially preserved).
From 1948 to 1985, the building königsberg Church of the virgin Mary were empty and collapsed. After the transfer of the ruins of the Lutheran Church of the Russian Orthodox Church, the building was restored, and its territory was founded the first Orthodox monastery in the Kaliningrad region. In the historical building is St. Nicholas Cathedral. From 1986 to the present day are held in the Cathedral for worship.
Since December 1999, the monastery was transformed into a female. Now at the St. Nicholas monastery is a Sunday school and held charity dinners. Around old buildings there is a small landscaped Park.
The attraction will be interesting for both pilgrims and history buffs.
