One of the most remarkable buildings Kashina is the mansion of the merchant A. P. Zhdanov. This magnificent residential building – the city's only building, built in the lush eclectic forms, corresponds to the Petersburg architecture level of the third quarter of the nineteenth century. The mansion was admired by his contemporaries-provincials its impressive décor and extreme wealth.
The building was built in 1860-ies by the merchant Zhdanov. There is information that the building of this house was spent an enormous amount of 200 000 rubles. In those days it was a lot of money. Some time later, probably in the 1880-ies, to the house from the rear line of the lane that went down to the Kashinka, was built by an elongated extension. Here was a garden sloping down to the river from the yard. Anecdotal evidence shows that on the ground floor of the house was equipped with a lush dining room and billiard room, and upstairs was arranged in the winter garden, which was a rarity.
The interior decor of the mansion was distinguished no less luxurious than its appearance (in some descriptions even surpassed). All splendid decoration was imported. In the city famous story which tells that if the owner of the mansion, not wanting to give in to the scope of construction works capital aristocrats and even "get around" them, sought the king's permission for the gilding of the roof.
