Bornay mosque is in the Old Tatar Sloboda. She is one of the oldest in Kazan. It is a monument of religious architecture. The mosque building has survived two world wars and a long period of neglect during the Soviet era. Despite this, the mosque was preserved in almost pristine shape.
Burnaevskaya mosque was built in 1872. The author of the project was the architect P. I. Novels. Was engaged in the construction of the Muslim community of Kazan. The architectural style of the buildings – the national romantic eclecticism. Financed the construction of the merchant M. K. Burnaev. The mosque is a one-story brick building with a minaret. The entrance to the building is via a minaret. The authors of the project of the minaret was designed by the architects F. N. Malinowski and L. K. Prodonovich. The facades of the mosque are decorated with elements of medieval Tatar architecture and elements of Russian architecture.
The mosque was built by merchant Salih Mustafina in place, where in 1799 there was a wooden mosque, which was used shakirdy Apanaev madrasah. In 1831 he died and the mosque was moved, Muslims living nearby. They formed the new parish of the mosque. It was the third Muslim parish Church. This Muslim community and built a new Bornay mosque.
In 1930-1994, the mosque has not acted. Now this is an active mosque. People call it "foreign" due to the fact that the parish consists mainly of foreigners.
