25 km from Kemer are the ruins of the ancient city of Olympus. The name of the city was named in honor of the ancient mount Olympus, which is now called Tahtali. This is one of the most interesting places of Antalya coast. The city was founded in the III century. BC, was a member of the Lycian League. The city minted its own coins, the oldest of the coins dated to the 2nd century BC, this date is found in the ancient manuscripts of Olympus. The city served as a refuge for the Cilician pirates. They surrounded the city with walls and stayed there until the XV century.

About 42 BC the city was captured by the Romans. It was the time of Roman rule, the town quickly flourished. But in the following century, when the rule of the Byzantine Empire, the town fell into decay and its inhabitants left. In the 7th century the city was invaded by the Arabs.

Remains of an ancient city hidden in dense vegetation. From the Acropolis there was only one wall and the door. There are remnants of the Byzantine Basilica, bearing bridge and Teatro Romano ruins. In the necropolis is home to the historic tombs and sarcophagi.

The main attraction of Olympus – the mountain Chimera. On the mountain a fire breaks out constantly due to the fact that seeps from the earth gas. Here you can admire the ruins of the ancient temple. This place is described in the famous "Iliad". According to history, Bellerophon killed the Chimera (monster with a lion's head, a snake's tail and torso of a goat) boom and then dropped the monster inside the mountain. After that, the mountain began to appear mysterious flames.

Currently Olympos is part of the National Park and is under the protection of the law under which this district is prohibited from mass tourism. The ruins of the city, surrounded by rich greenery and Laurel trees, flowering oleanders, wild figs and pines, enchant.
