14 km from Kemer are the ruins of the ancient city of Phaselis. It was founded in the VI century BC and quickly became a port city, with its residents successfully selling citizenship for 100 drachmas any resident of Asia Minor could become a citizen of Phaselis. 129 year the city was visited by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, in whose honour were erected triumphal arch, the forum, delivered numerous statues.

In those days the city had three ports (East, Central, and southern). For military purposes were used South of the port, as evidenced by a fortress on a steep cliff, surrounded by strong walls.
