Oratorio Gallery – ancient oratory on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry.Oratorio Gallarus was discovered in 1756, reliable data on exactly when it was built this building, was not found to this day. Historians suggest that the oratorio was built in approximately 6-9 century A. D. However, some architectural features, including the form of a single window, located on the East side, has allowed to assume that the oratorio was built much later, probably in the 12th century. There is disagreement about the purpose of this structure, although most researchers still agree that it served as a Christian Church.
Oratorio is a fairly simple structure, built of local stone, the ancient red Sandstone, characterized by a special strength. Visually, the oratorio resembles the inverted hull of a ship. Such a comparison due to the fact that the building has a rectangular base shape (8 m length, 5 m width) and inclined side walls, "seeking" to each other and thereby forming the roof of the building. It is considered that the construction was not used for bonding mortar, but for some particles, extant, you can almost certainly assume this role to some extent played a lime mortar, which were lined with inner and outer walls of the oratorio. The altitude of the oratorio is about 8 m. the entrance to the oratory doorway, a height of about 2 m) is located on the West side.
