1 km from the village of Kholui Borkowski is the Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas monastery. It is located on the left coast of the river Thesis.
The Foundation of the monastery occurred in the mid-1650 year when monetary support I. Prince Pozharsky, because his father – a famous hero of the time of Troubles Dmitry Pozharsky – insisted on this in his dying will. Judging by the preserved in writing to the legend, Dmitry Pozharsky led his army for the purpose of redemption of the capital from Polish invaders, and he took a vow to erect a monastery, if you can defeat foreign enemies. His promise to them was the construction of the monastery in the name of especially revered Russian Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker in the place where time has stopped his troops near the village of Kholui. The icon of this Saint was generously donated to the monastery.
In the past at the place of erection of the Trinity-the Nikolaev desert was impassable forest, the monastery received the name Borkowski.
Deserts located on the floodplain, with the North-West side it is surrounded by the forest. The appearance of the monastery combines perfectly with the beautiful natural scenery. The monastery on all sides surrounded by quite a tall stone wall, on the four corners which is built turrets, and from the South-East side stands the two-storey stone-built housing; the inner fence are two small churches and a belfry that is related to the architecture of the 17th century. Directly in the fence are placed two wooden hull, exhibited on stone foundations and intended for monks and abbots; the main entrance leads the path, almost completely lined with trees.
Directly in front of the road not so long ago there was built a small wooden chapel in which the Holy icon of St. Nicholas, and on the right side from the main entrance is built of wood two-storey house of intended for pilgrims; from the North, near the fence, you can see the old trees.
In deserts are three entrances, the main one is the East side, second from the South, and the third is from the North, while it has access solely for monastic purposes. Inside the monastery there is a small cemetery, the same cemetery is outside of the monastery to the North side.
Initially the monastery was built of wood. The fence was wooden. Still no information on how many people were then in the parish. At the time of the Trinity-the Nikolaev deserts was listed as one of the established monasteries with full power of Igoumenitsa. After he died, the founder of the monastery, she for a long time remained without any support, and then came in a dilapidated condition. A fire damaged the buildings of the monastery. And it was closed in 1761.
During the reign of the Empress Catherine II to the generously donated funds of Bishop Methodius of the Trinity-the Nikolaev desert rose significantly, what happened when Yurievsky and Suzdal Bishop Gennady. The monastery was rebuilt. In this case especially helped were nephews of Bishop Methodius – the farmer Stepanov Abram and the priest Alexey Gavrilov. These people were able to rebuild two churches – first warm Kazan, and then cold, today known as Trinity Church.
