The monument to the cat Panteleimon is one of the most original and unusual monuments in Kiev. The monument was erected in 1998 near restaurant Osteria Pantagruel and the Golden gate. The restaurant was chosen because it was here in the early 90-ies of the cat lived Pantyusha, which was the symbol of the restaurant. Unfortunately, during the fire in the restaurant, the cat died, and it is in his honor, it was decided to establish the monument. The author of the project was sculptor Bogdan Mazur, and funds for the monument were collected by friends of the restaurant and its regulars. In the original version near the cat sat a bird, but she was repeatedly cut down tourists for Souvenirs, so now the cat Panteleimon stands alone. Since this monument is very unusual, it is often compared to the Scottish monument to the dog Bobby, who after the death of the owner all the time he lived on his grave.
Despite the fact that the monument to the cat Panteleimon refers to young monuments around it has already developed several legends. One of them resonates directly with the fire. According to the legend, the cat was able to warn all visitors of the restaurant about the danger, but he had no time to escape. According to another legend, the monument was not the cat Panteleimon, and even more famous cat Behemoth, which is the character of Bulgakov's novel "Master and Margarita". This furry creature of many residents of the city associated with Bulgakov's novel, which is understandable, however, nothing to do with "Master and Margarita", he still has not, since the real monument, and not the book, the cat.
Among some visitors of the monument there is even a belief that stands to put under his paw coin, to take on both the tail and the ear, make a wish – and it very likely will come true.
