This unusual large complex built by the Professor Ilmari Lahdelma in 2008 on the territory of modern port of Contactame approached with the oldest icebreaker-Museum “Tarmo (1907), in its external appearance similar to a fearsome giant shaft sizes. The length of the building, the roof of which is a square with panoramic views of the city and the sea is 300 m and a height of 30 m.

The Museum complex houses the Maritime Museum of Finland and Museum of Kymenlaakso and Information centre Vellamo. Indoors, oak finish and striking colours, from green and orange to deep blue, exhibited various ships, boats, port cargo cranes, etc. Sparkling facade in the form of sea glint of glass and metal gives the whole ensemble a special personality.

The Information center stores the print edition, e-books and magazines. Maritime Museum of Finland presents its main exhibition dedicated to the history and development of navigation in Northern waters. In the Museum of Kymenlaakso, visitors get acquainted with the material and spiritual heritage of the city and region of Kymenlaakso, as well as the history of sea protection. It also includes the client terminal and a jukebox with records folk tunes, a restaurant and a souvenir shop.
