Collegium Maius - the oldest building of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

The University was founded in 1364, 36 years later king Wladyslaw II Jagiello granted the University its own building. Previously, the property belonged to the wife of king – Queen Jadwiga. Rebuild already finished building the University administration did not. From the mid 15th century the building got its present name – Collegium Maius, which means "the Greatest College". The College was located halls for lectures, accommodation for University professors, a library and a shared facility. The building in neo-Gothic style in 1840-1856, adapted to the needs of a growing library. The reconstruction was supervised by Polish architect and restorer Charles Kremer, and in 1861 the matter concluded Herman Bergman. In 1931 construction began on the new building for the University library, which was completed in 1939. After moving the book collection, in the Collegium Maius was opened Museum of the Jagiellonian University.

Currently the Museum displays items related to the history of the University. For example, in the collection is a set of astronomical instruments used by Copernicus.

In Soviet times the building of the College scenes were filmed the movie "sword and Shield".
