Krasnodar regional art Museum named after F. A. Kovalenko is one of the oldest art museums in the North Caucasus. The number stored in the Museum objects is about 12 thousand units, and here are the work of Russian and foreign authors.

In the basis of the collection Fund of the Museum was based on the collection of F. A. Kovalenko, which he gave to the city in 1904. In the collection of F. A. Kovalenko was 730 1400 paintings and graphic works. It also contained rare books and objects of applied art. Later Ilya Repin and other artists presented their creations gallery.

In the first years of its work the Museum was located in the premises of the City administration. In the future, the City Council agreed to pay the rent of the second floor of a separate building. In 1919, the art gallery moved into a single Kuban-black sea regional Museum named after A. V. Lunacharsky. In the 90s, the Museum was named after F. A. Kovalenko.

After almost one hundred years after the opening of the Museum underwent major reconstruction of the building, which was completed in 2006. In the process of work was restored plasterwork, updated color of the walls, renovated parquet and terracotta interior details. Then there was the opening of a new exhibition - "the seasons".
