The old exchange is a unique monument of architecture of Leipzig, this historic building is located on the area around the Naschmarkt. The building was erected in 1687 and completed in the Baroque style, which had not only Italian and Dutch features, but also some Renaissance elements.
The old exchange was built by architect from Saxony Johann Georg Starke. In this building you can see numerous Parallels with his other creations, such as the Palace of the Great garden and the Italian garden in Dresden. In 1816 the building had to go through reconstruction, which was dealt with by such architects as Friedrich Weinbrenner and Johann Karl Friedrich Dauth. But subsequently, in the period from 1905 to 1907, when work began on the next change of the external appearance of the exchange, she was restored to its former glory.
The main entrance of this majestic building is located in the heart of the southern facade, it is made in the form of a beautiful arch, the sides of which are columns. Above it can be seen as angels holding a gilded coat of arms of the city of Leipzig. One of the angels holds in his hand and the wand of mercury, which was previously regarded as a symbol of a successful trade. Going up the white staircase, you can see that the roof of the Old exchange flat and bounded by a balustrade. On the corners are made by talented sculptor Hans Caspar Sandmann statues of these mythical personalities like mercury, Venus, Apollo and Minerva.
On the second floor of the facility was the Exchange hall, where he held various auctions. Unfortunately, in 1943, the building of the Old exchange and the decoration was completely destroyed, it was rebuilt only to 1962. Currently in the Stock room often hosts a variety of events, exhibitions, literary readings and concerts.
