The Museum of Henryk Sienkiewicz – branch of the National Museum in Kielce, located in the village Allegorica, in the estate of the famous Polish writer Henryk Sienkiewicz. The village is located 18 km North-West of Kielce.
In 1900, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the literary activity of the future Nobel prize-winning Polish society organized a collection to buy a property and create a Museum of the writer. On this occasion, was formed citizens ' Committee which was to prepare the program of the celebration.
The act was signed in Kielce on July 18, 1900, the area of 515 hectares of woodland and arable land was bought for 51249 rubles and 59 kopecks. The remaining after the purchase of real estate funds raised were spent on the purchase of building materials, agricultural machinery and cattle. Sculptor Pius Wilonsky created a bust of the writer of white marble, and the Warsaw architect has built a country house. The estate was built in the eclectic style, over the entrance was placed the family crest of the family Senkevich. The area around the mansion was surrounded by a large Park with oaks and lindens.
At the opening ceremony on 22 December 1900 Henryk Sienkiewicz said: "This work.... My rewards is the country's... Heart pulls me to just cry: Thank you country..."
The writer has used the estate as a place for summer holidays and work. After his death his wife Mary and son Henry Joseph settled in the HOMESTEAD, where they remained until 1944. At the end of the Second world war, the estate was nationalized.
Currently the property has a Museum dedicated to the writer. On the ground floor was restored appearance and decor of the rooms. In 2007, the granddaughter of writer Maria Kornilovich donated more than 350 exhibits.
The Museum organizes numerous concerts, temporary exhibitions, scientific sessions with the aim of promoting knowledge about the life and work of Henryk Sienkiewicz.
