The oldest Park of Lithuania is the Aukstaitija national Park, it is located 100 km North of Vilnius. The Park was founded in 1974, its area is more than 400 sq. km. Approximately 2% of the Park is strictly protected zone, it is possible only accompanied by employees of the Park.

The Park is covered by woodland, but 15% of the Park are lakes, namely 126 beautiful lakes and rivers. The biggest lake is Kretuonas area 8, 29 sq km and Taurinas - 60, 5 sq. m. the Last is the deepest in Austism Park. Lake Baluosas boasts 7 Islands, and one of them has its own small lake, this lake is in the lake. The water system of the Park reinforce the numerous streams flowing from them.

Among the rivers flowing on the territory of the Park, it is worth noting the river Jamiano, in the Park she is 22 km, and its basin includes all waters Austausch Park.

Thanks to the abundance of water the Park is rich in flora and fauna. In the Park there are over 209 species of birds, 45 of which are listed in the Red data book of Lithuania, 64 species of plants, 59% of plants growing in the territory of Lithuania can be seen in the Park, and it takes only 1% of the country.

However, the lakes and rivers of the Park are attracted not only by the inhabitants of the forest, but also tourists. That is not surprising, because in the waters of the Park there are 35 species of fish and fishing enthusiasts enjoy coming to this lovely place. Thanks to the administration of the Park, visitors can rent boats, kayaks, fishing rods. Also, if arranged in advance with the administration, you can stay overnight in the reserve.

The most favorite place of all visitors to the Park is the hill of Ladakalnis, it offers unforgettable views of the seven lakes Austausch Park. The this hill with a height of 175 metres above sea level, and its name literally translates as "ice mountain". Being on the hill you can see these lakes: Linkmenas, Asani, Ucaas, Ascas, ALNAS, Lushai and Almas. According to numerous legends before the hill Ladakalnis was used for ceremonies in honor of the mother goddess Lada.

The Park has 119 villages and total population of 2,300 people. Tourists love to visit the village with windmills and wooden churches, including the famous village Ginuchai and Palos.
