The only in Ukraine Museum, which represents a distinctive school of Volyn icons, is the Museum of Volyn icon. The Museum is located in the city of Lutsk, street Yaroshchuk, 5. The Museum was opened in August 1993.
The creation of this collection is connected with the name of the famous Ukrainian art critic P. Zholtovsky. He led a scientific expedition Volyn regional Museum of the 80-ies of XX century in the collection and study of historical and cultural monuments in the temples of Volyn region.
In Lutsk Volyn icon Museum contains a unique collection of monuments of sacral art – icons, decorative carvings, sculptures, crosses, crucifixes and other religious objects. In the Museum, there are over a thousand exhibits, which were created in the XI - XX centuries, among them about 600 icons.
School of Volyn icon painting was distinguished for its originality. Painters Volhynia possessed the ability to combine varied styles, and also had a creative manner to bring religious ideas into pictorial images. Their icons are thanks to its unique energy became known not only in Ukraine but also beyond its borders.
