The Prado Museum was founded by Isabella Bragança, wife of Ferdinand VII. In 1819 he was housed in the current building as the Royal Museum. It exhibits paintings Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Flemish and German schools.
But to get a full view of his collections should be familiar not only with exposure, deployed in the Central building (painting from the middle ages to the eighteenth century), but also by visiting the Villahermosa Palace, which houses a fine collection from the collection of Thyssen-Bornemisza (painting of XII-XX centuries), and Kason del Buen Retiro, a branch of the Museum, which is located on the street of Philip IV (Spanish painting and sculpture of the nineteenth century, as well as works of some English and French painters).
Prado has a rich collection of works of art, many of which are genuine masterpieces. The Museum houses works by such famous Spanish artists as Berruguete, El Greco, Ribera, Surbaran, Murillo, exceptional in its quality and completeness of the collection of paintings of velázquez (including Surrender of Breda, "Las Meninas", "the Spinners", numerous portraits of king Philip IV and his family members, a series of portraits of the Royal jesters, and more) and Goya (among them - "the Family of king Charles IV", "Nude Maha and Dressed Mach", "The shooting on the night of the 2nd of may 3 1808", a number of excellent portraits). The Dutch school is represented by works of such brilliant artists like Rogier van der Weiden, Bosch, Memling, Brueghel. From German masters should be called Durer. Exceptionally rich collection of Italian painting, fra Angelico and Botticelli, Raphael and Titian, Giorgione, Veronese and Tintoretto. In addition to painting you will find in the Museum's collection of ancient coins, porcelain and jewelry.
