The Thyssen-Bornemisza Photo: The Thyssen-Bornemisza

The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is an amazing complete collection of works of art, formerly until 1993 the world's largest private collection of paintings. Along with the Prado Museum and the Reina Sofia the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is the famous Golden triangle of art. Collections of these museums complement each other, because in each of them exhibited paintings of that time and those art styles that are not in other.

The Museum has placed their collections in the beautiful premises of the Palace of Villahermosa, built in 1771. The Museum was founded in 1992, and a year later it became the property of the Spanish crown. The Museum collection includes about a thousand paintings, most of which (about 800 pictures) was collected by Baron Hans Thyssen-Bornemisza and his son Hans Heinrich, and 200 paintings that formed the personal collection of the widow of Hans Heinrich, were transferred to the Museum in 2004.

The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum presents to visitors an extensive collection of paintings, which features paintings of different art styles and schools, an exciting large time span from the 13th century until our days. Among the many masterpieces exhibited in the Museum, there are paintings by such outstanding artists as Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael, Durer, Rubens, Picasso. The exhibition of the Impressionists presents paintings of Gauguin, van Gogh, Monet, Renoir and others. Of great interest is the extensive collection of rare North American paintings belonging to the 19th century and occupying 4 rooms of the Museum. The Museum also exhibits paintings relating to contemporary trends in the arts - avant-garde, pop art.
