Art Museum of the city of malmö is one of the leading art museums in Scandinavia. The Museum was founded in 1841 as part of the city Museum of malmö. Later the Museum was divided into two parts: Art Museum and the Museum of malmö. The building of the Art Museum since 1937, is located on the territory of the fortress malmö, which is one of the oldest Renaissance castles in Scandinavia.

Art Museum, malmö is famous for its large collection of works by Scandinavian artists of the 20th century. It also presents a large collection of Handicrafts, mainly from the southern provinces of Sweden, and Swedish religious painting.

The backbone of the Museum's collection of 700 works of contemporary art in the Nordic countries, which were collected by Hermann Gothardism in the period from 1914 to 1943 and donated to the Museum. Also, special attention should be paid to the extensive collection of Carl Fredrik hill, which contains more than 2,600 drawings and 25 paintings. Carl Fredrik hill (1849-1911) is considered one of the most outstanding landscape painters of Sweden largely thanks to his works created between 1883 and 1911, which became known worldwide.

Art Museum, malmö organizes various temporary exhibitions, mainly devoted to the art of the Nordic countries. Constant the exhibition is organized like a walk through time and space, as a retrospective, reflecting developments in art and Nordic countries, and the world. The Museum strives to give its visitors the opportunity to see, explore, comment on, criticize the history and modern life. Educational activities of the Museum includes tours, school programs and seminars.
