Cathedral of Holy spirit was built in 1633-42 years. Originally the Cathedral was built in the Roman Catholic monastery of Bernardines. Broke out in 1741 by a terrible fire caused serious damage to the monastery. In 1860, the building was returned to the Orthodox Church. For nine years we have made repeated attempts to repair it and perestroika, however, full recovery of missing funds. The money was allocated by the decree of Metropolitan of Minsk and Bobruisk Alexander. After the reconstruction and repair was opened here the male of the Holy spirit monastery.

In the autumn of 1870 were first consecrated the main altar in honor of the Descent of the Holy spirit, then the right side-altar in honor of saints Cyril and Methodius. At the Holy spirit monastery were transported from Slutsky Holy Trinity monastery precious Orthodox relics: icon Nikita, Bishop of Novgorod, a portrait of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, colchici with relics of revered Orthodox saints, the gospel, personally rewritten the Prince of Slutsk Yuri Olelko.

After the revolution, in 1918, the monastery was closed and looted. From the temple, the crosses were removed, instead of them hoisted red flags, and the Church building was converted to a prison for dispossessed peasants. Ming old-timers say that the red flags were immediately thrown down by the wind.

The Church was consecrated again in 1943 Archbishop Filofei. Money devout Minsker was made a new iconostasis. To collect the required amount, the donor had to sell their two homes. Reborn of the Holy spirit monastery, which was only three monks. With the arrival of the red Army, one of the monks, all well-known and respected Archimandrite Seraphim was arrested and died in prison. He was later canonized.

In spite of persecution and repression of the Soviet authorities, the restoration of the temple continued. In 1945 in the Church of the Descent of the Holy spirit was referred to an ancient icon - Minsk image of the Mother of God. In 1947 at the dome again crosses were erected.

In 1990, for the first time since the revolution was a procession. From the Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy spirit in the newly consecrated Church of St. Mary Magdalene was moved the relics of St. Mary Magdalene in a special chest.

Today the Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy spirit is one of the most revered and beautiful temples of Minsk.
