State Museum of history of theatrical and musical culture of the Republic of Belarus was opened on 23 March 1990. The Museum is located in a beautiful area of the historic centre of Minsk, in the Music lane, the house 5. The total exposition area of the Museum - 362 sqm
The building which houses the Museum was built in the early XIX century in the Baroque style. This structure is known in Minsk called the House of the Freemasons. On the plan it has the shape of a Masonic cross. Legend has it that this house was the seat of a Masonic Lodge called "North Torch". Unfortunately, probably because of the secrecy that hides the activities of the Freemasons, the legend has no documentary evidence.
The house of the Freemasons was transferred to the state Museum of history of theatrical and musical culture in 2011 after restoration.
Now in the Museum there are 10 collections: musical instruments, musical manuscripts, documentaries, photographs and photographic reproductions, posters and programs, visual materials, phonosophie, videos, memorabilia.
Of special interest are such interesting exhibition, "the Origins of theatrical and musical culture in the Belarusian lands", where you can see ancient national musical instruments: zhaleyka, howardi, accordion, ratchet, bagpipes, whistles, etc. the exhibition "the crib" tells about Belarusian folk puppet theatre.
Regularly held in the Museum exhibitions dedicated to Belarusian musical and theatrical arts, festivals, lectures, chamber music concerts, balls.
