In Ruzaevka district Mordovia region, in the village of Pygama is the ascension convent, founded in 1865. The monastery was consecrated in the name of the Holy Martyr Paraskeva, whose icon was miraculously found on this site in the eighteenth century.
The Chronicles of the monastery, the history of the Mordvin shrines begins with a soldier, suffered greatly from a disease of the feet and nahoditsea only consolation in prayer. The face of St. Paraskeva, who appeared to a sick soldier, announced the location of the healing of the icon and the Holy spring in the village of Pygama. Taken healed foot soldiers had built on the source of the chapel and found a way. News of the miraculous icon spread far beyond the area and caused a mass pilgrimage to these places. Icon, found the soldier, and again was brought by the peasants from the chapel in Ruzaevka the Church, but the following morning the image was found at his place, at the source. The original image was lost. In the nineteenth century instead of the lost icon in the Athonite monastery was written by a new icon of the Martyr Paraskeva, framed in silver-gilt Riza with particles of the Holy relics specifically for Pigorsch monastery.
In July 1865 the place of location of the icon was formed Paraskevi ascension community. In 1895 he built the temple complex, including the assumption and Church of the ascension. Paraskevi ascension monastery in the nineteenth century was one of the populous and well-built monasteries in Russia.
In our days Paraskevi Voznesensky convent, which is considered a historical and architectural gem of the Mordovian area and a place of pilgrimage for Orthodox Christians.
