The dolls Museum is located in the historical center of Moscow, Leontief lane. The Museum is a branch of Fund of national crafts. It was opened in 2001 in the mansion, where more than a hundred years ago there was a workshop in which was made the first toy named Matrona, or Matryoshka.

In the Museum you can learn the story of the souvenir, which became popular all over the world. The first instance of the dolls in the late 19th century to carve the master, hereditary Turner – Vasily Zvezdochka. It happened in the Studio at the store, "Child development", which was owned by the famous philanthropist and patron of crafts A. Mamontov. Painted toy known artist Sergey Malyutin, a member of the group "World of art". The first matryoshka was a girl in folk costume, with a black cock in his hand.

Russian matryoshka was presented at the world trade and industrial exhibition in Paris in 1900. Matryoshka was awarded a bronze medal, for the best implementation of the idea of family unity and preservation of family values.

The Museum exposition is located in two halls. In the first room you can see the dolls classic shape, but painted oil on canvas of Kasimir Malevich's "Athletes". In the same hall are exhibited dolls, donated to the Museum by the Studio of Artemiy Lebedev. Each of the donated puppets shows one of the units of measurement of quantity of information. From terabytes to bits. The exhibition presents the "family" of dolls. The largest of them there are 50 dolls, and the smallest has a size of only a few millimeters.

In the second room displays copies of the very first dolls – dolls. The dolls are painted fairy tale characters, are portraits of members of the Royal family and depict famous Actresses of the 20th century. Here you can see the Japanese prototype Russian souvenir – Symphony orchestra, consisting of dolls - musicians.
