Theatre "At Nikitsky gate" was founded in 1983. Its founder was a Director, playwright, composer, people's artist of Russia, holder of the order of Honour, academician of the American Pushkin Academy - mark Rozovsky.

From the day of its Foundation until 1987 Studio theatre existed on the position of the Amateur band. In January 1987, the theatre received the status of a professional theatre and a fully self-supporting organization. In October 1991, the theatre received the status of a state. Mark Rozovsky has created an interesting theatre with superb acting ensemble. He has cleverly transformed the Amateur team in professional theatre.

In January 1999 by the decision of the government of Moscow, the theatre was transferred to the former cinema "Re-film". The building was a small room. It could accommodate only 80 spectators. The building needed major renovation. After the repair, in the " second stage – main hall with 250 seats.

Since its Foundation to the present day, the theatre has come a long way. He has a unique repertoire, it's filled with the performances of different genres in the repertoire combines musicals, comedies, dramas, poetry performances, a tragic farce and a philosophical parable. All performances United by one concept - "the idea of humanity and psihologicheskie".

In the repertoire of the theatre includes performances from the stage of history and the continued success with the public: "the novel about girls", "Songs of our court yard". From performances staged in recent times, the most notable performances were performances by L. Ulitskaya's prose – "forget-me-Nots", "the Snowstorm" (V. Sorokina), "Bury me behind a plinth" (P. Germany, Czech Republic, Latvia, Israel, Canada, Korea, France and Poland.

In January 2012 theatre "At Nikitsky gate" opened its doors to viewers in a new and renovated building of the former movie Theater again. This event, the theater was waiting for 12 years. New auditorium at 198 beds and comfortable seats and good visibility, the stage is equipped with the latest sound equipment and modern technologies, equipped with modern lighting equipment.

The theater lobby is warmly decorated. In the theatre everything is done to make the audience comfortable. With all the modern finishes of the building, built in the 18th century, retained its historical appearance.
