Dark garden is the oldest Park of Narva. This is one of the favorite places for locals and tourists, great fitting for walking and relaxing. Dark garden is an example of landscape architecture of the 19th century. The Park is located on the Bastion Victoria, which by the end of the 19th century lost its defensive significance. This fortification situated on the banks of the Narva river, is the most powerful Bastion of the city. The maximum height of the outer wall reaches 16 meters. This strengthening was badly damaged during the great Northern war, but was subsequently restored by the Russians.
In a Dark garden with trees older than 100 years. In the Park there is a monument, erected in 1853. The monument is a cast iron cross mounted on a stone pedestal, as the memory of the dead Russian soldiers during the Northern war in 1704 during the storming of the city of Narva. In the Park there is also a mass grave, symbolizing the fallen soldiers during the Liberation war in 1918. There is another sculpture in the Park, which is certainly worth a look is "Swedish lion", mounted as a memory of the battle of the Russians and the Swedes at Narva. The battle took place in 1700, between the troops of the Swedish king Charles XII and Peter the great Swedish lion was installed in 1936. In November 2000 it was restored and opened again. This sculpture is located on top of a hill, offering wonderful views of the river.
