Natural monument "the Canyon "Big gate" is located in the Nenets Autonomous district covers an area of 212 hectares. It is designed to preserve complexes of nature within the canyon, outputs on the surface of minerals, outcrops of rocks, natural landscapes of the Belaya river, paleontological, geological, fisheries, Botanical objects Timan tundra.

The landscape of this natural monument are the picturesque coastal cliffs basalts of the upper Devonian, which has a height of 80-90 m In the basalt canyon inclusions of agate and other minerals.

Of particular importance this area has in paleontological terms. 300-400 million years ago, it housed a Bank Devonian sea. Currently, sediments are visible in the steep riverbanks. Sand and shale cliffs of the upper Devonian was found the remains of shells, teeth armoured fish, various corals, trilobites, prints and the remains of the upper Devonian plants.

Across the canyon "Big gates" White river with many rocky shoals, its width within the canyon is 25-30 m. It is a place of spawning salmon and the habitat of trout and grayling.

Rare tundra plants such as bluegrass PPE, Silene mallista, skarda blackish, blue phyllodoce, Arctic gentian, listed in the Red book of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

The Western border of the natural monument is the beginning of a steep canyon, where the channel narrows White; the East end of the canyon, where the river valley widens in front of the Bay, which was established in line with the White on the right Bank; the southern and the Northern boundary is steep and high banks on both sides of the river.

In the canyon "Big gates" denied any economic and other activities, which leads to the violation of conservation of the monument, including: deforestation, not including sanitary and recreational activities; production of the geological and agricultural activities, including the use of mineral fertilizers, chemical plant protection products, pesticides, growth promoters, including grazing of livestock, plowing of the land; mining; gathering of plants included in the Red book; a collection of gemstones and collection of materials; Parking ground transportation and others.

In the canyon allowed by agreement with the Agency for natural resources and the environment: conduct environmental activities aimed at conservation of riverine landscapes, paleontological, geological, fisheries, Botanical facilities, and other activities that do not contradict the objectives of the natural monument to the regime for its protection; to locate commercial-industrial objects of the monument. Also on the territory of the natural monument is allowed: to conduct scientific research, including environmental monitoring; to organize environmental education activities ( educational excursions, arrange environmental education trail, to record movies). Sport and Amateur fishing in river and lake waters in the territory of the monument are subject to the fisheries legislation.
