District centre the district is associated with the work of the poet N. A. Nekrasov. Nikolay Alekseevich purchased the estate with the beautiful name Chudovskaya Onions. The estate is situated on the banks of the river Kereste, which flows into the river Volkhov. In the centre of the estate, surrounded by the old garden there is a wooden house with two floors. In this house of the great Russian poet in the seventies of the nineteenth century repeatedly lived in the summer. On vacation in Chudovo Nekrasov came not alone but with his beloved wife Zinaida Nikolaevna, which he affectionately called the same. Life in the estate liked Nikolai Alekseevich, she allowed him to escape from work in the magazine and at least for a short time to forget about censored.
In the summer of 1874 he lived in Chudovsky Luki for two months. Just at that time was born the cycle of eleven works of poetry, subsequently named "Chudovskiy cycle". During the life of the estate, the poet constantly went in Chudovo and the surrounding villages. These trips allowed us to learn about life and living conditions of poor peasants. Subsequently, the obtained material was used for writing such works as "Conflagration", "Railway" and, of course, the immortal "Elegy".
"Railroad" so precisely was transferred to the life of ordinary people, full of privations and hardships that tsarist censorship twice warned the editorial Board of the journal "Contemporary", who published this work. Subsequently, the magazine was closed. This event happened in 1866.
Travel wife Nekrasov was always there, even on the hunt, in which the officer participated equally with men. Chudovskaya hunting was reflected in the work of Nekrasov "Discouraged".

At the end of 1877 Nikolay Alekseevich, long probolem, died. Inherited the estate passed to his brother Nekrasov – Constantine and his sister Anna. In 1892, the estate was opened an agricultural school, which lasted until 1906. During epidemics in the room opened the hospital. During the war, during the occupation, it housed the German barracks, and the garden was felled.
To the XVII century anniversary in the estate Museum was opened, and in 2004, the appearance of the estate was restored to its original appearance. Also from the rooms of the Museum workers have removed modern subjects and returned the furniture, which was used directly N. A. Nekrasov.
