Novgorod and its environs from the earliest times known to many monasteries located here. Among them are the monasteries are very famous, but there are some which are not known even to many locals. One of these monasteries is the Perekomsk monastery, which now no longer exists. It was a provincial monastery, located near the village of Dubrovo, on the West side of lake Ilmen. The monastery was founded by St. Ephraim in 1450. To ensure the monastery's residents with water, Saint Ephrem dug a ditch from the lake to the monastery, hence the name.
In 1611 the Swedes ravaged the monastery, and he was only restored in 1672. In 1764 the monastery was abolished, however, in 1796 here from Nikolaev - Rozhische monastery, monks were moved, and it was reopened and renamed in the Perekomsk – Nicholas-Roswarski. At the monastery there were two existing churches. The main feature of the monastery was that it housed the relics of the founder of the monastery, the monk Ephrem of Perekomsk.
St. Ephraim was born in 1412, September 20, in the city of Kashin. Parents named him eustachy. Even as a teenager, Eustace left the parental home in Kalasinski Trinity monastery. Later he moved to another monastery and took vows. He was given a new Church name is Ephraim. After the tonsure, Ephraim received the revelation of the Lord that he must withdraw to a desolate place. In 1450, he moved to lake Ilmen and set up the cell. Shortly thereafter, two monks, together with the elder Thomas, who also settled here, near the cell of the monk Ephrem. Then started coming here and the other hermits. Yielding to their request, in 1458 Ephraim was ordained a priest.
Then, the monk Ephrem immediately founded a monastery in the island and the Church of the Epiphany. Then the monk dug from lake Ilmen to the monastery duct, and the monastery was named Perekop, or Perekopsky. Later, the monk decided to build a stone Church dedicated to Saint Nicholas. Construction was completed in 1466. In this temple the Reverend Ephraim was buried in 1492.
However, due to the location, the monastery was subjected to frequent flooding. There was a real danger of destruction of buildings, and in 1509 it was moved to another location. This place is supposedly indicated by the Reverend Ephraim, who was the Abbot of the Novel, his former pupil. This place was Bladed. Since all the monastic buildings were dismantled, the burial place of the former chapel was built, and the relics were transported together to the temple. Since that time, in may of each year, the monastery was made a day of commemoration of Saint Ephrem.
It belonged to the monastery, located on the Volkhov bridge in Novgorod, the chapel of the miraculous cross. This chapel was built in ancient times, and it was named so because it was the miraculous cross. This eight-pointed cross made from Linden wood he has a long history, with a carved representation of the Crucifixion. The miracles that happened with this cross, noted as early as 1418. In the monastery there were two apartment houses. The Priory was located at the intersection of Tikhvin and Ratvasky.
In December 1919 Perekomsk the monastery was abolished. In the late 1920-ies all the monastic buildings were destroyed. They were sorted on the bricks. Remained only the Church of the Epiphany, which until the 1930s acted as a parish. On a hot July day in 1932, the Church was blown up. The relics of St. Ephraim is left to rest under the ruins of the Epiphany Cathedral.
The 20th century brought to the monastery destruction and oblivion. It is unknown when and who razed all the buildings of the monastery. But they remained in folk memory and in 1997 on the site where once stood the temples, a chapel was built.
