Novosibirsk state Opera and ballet theatre is the largest theatre of the city of Novosibirsk and Siberia, but one of the most significant theatres in Russia.

The unique construction of the theater began in 1931, however, as it turned out later, the project was very expensive. Therefore, due to the lack of funds the construction work, unfortunately, were suspended. In 1936 Moscow architects in the Studio of the famous academician A. Shchusev was a new building project, with a total area of about 12 thousand sq. m.

Novosibirsk theatre is considered to be rather complicated structure. Unique huge dome over the auditorium built without the use of farms and buttresses. Cover the dome with thousands of iron and silvery scales. The diameter of the dome is 60 m. This design was the first in Europe. As a result, the project of the building of the theatre was awarded the Gold medal of the world exhibition held in Paris.

The great hall is surrounded by the spacious lobby and plenty of additional rooms and small halls. Before the renovation, the auditorium was designed for 2 thousand seats, a concert hall could accommodate up to 450 seats and a small hall - 150 seats. With the outbreak of war in 1941, the construction has almost finished building stopped again. During the hostilities in the theater were stored the treasures of Leningrad and Moscow museums. Occasionally the theatrical stage was used to hold a variety of concerts.
