A place of pilgrimage for many Catholics in both Czech Republic and around the world is located in Olomouc and is a single-nave Church with side chapels. This temple for a long time was a simple Church. Only in 1995, Pope John Paul II bestowed upon him the prestigious title of minor Basilica.
The pilgrimage Church of the Visitation of the virgin Mary is located in the suburbs of the city called the Holy Kopecek. From the centre there is a bus No. 11, so every hiker found in Olomouc can go to worship the Holy places.
The massive building was built in Baroque style in the second half of the XVII century, thanks to the efforts of two architects of the Italian D. P. Tencalla and D. Martinelli.
Above the temple has two towers that immediately attract attention and give the whole structure a solemn look. The Central part of the nave is covered by a massive dome, which was engaged in painting I. stöger. His brush are frescoes in which you can explore the history of this temple. Paintings adorn the walls of the chapels.
If we go around the temple, on its side railings you can see sculptures of saints, which are particularly revered in the Czech Republic. This Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian. There are placed the statues of the 12 apostles.
When the temple was built, for its interior design were invited many outstanding masters as from the Czech Republic and Italy. For example, over the painted vaults of the Church he worked as Castelli and his disciples, and some frescoes, in particular, the image of St. Augustine, created by K. Handsim.
