Modest, simple building of the Church of the Annunciation of the virgin Mary is located on Dolna square. It is considered to be the founder of the monastic order of Capuchins, which appeared in Olomouc in 1615. The Church of the Annunciation of the virgin Mary was built after the Thirty years ' war – in 1655-1661. Unfortunately, the name of the architect of the Church in written sources is not preserved.
Since the Church was monastic, that is intended solely for the administration of services, its structure was very simple. It is a single nave with rectangular choir and two chapels. Like the Church of the Capuchin order built throughout Europe. In Olomouc the temple appeared after a long period of Swedish occupation and became a symbol of what life is in a rut.
The facade of the Church facing Dolna square, has a high pediment. The only decoration of the temple is a magnificent mosaic, which depicts the mother of God. This panel is installed above the portal, preserved since the construction of the Church. One of the stones above the entrance to the Church you can see the date of the Foundation of the Church – year 1655.
Capuchin monastery ceased to exist in 1950, however, the Church of the Annunciation of the virgin Mary was confiscated from him earlier in 1942. Holy vaults was located the infectious diseases clinic.
After the departure of the monks of the convent became the property of the Czech state, so it is first given for the army, and then presented to the management of Railways. Only in 1989 the Capuchins returned to Olomouc and began to fight for their property. Lengthy litigation has led to the fact that they gradually began to return their property.
