Extraordinary Villa on the street On Vezouze, built in the style of randomality, belonged to the famous sculpture of Julius Pelican, the authorship of which owns many of the statues in Olomouc. Pelikanova Villa is now a declared monument of culture and attracts many tourists. Before entering you will often see the tourist group, with great attention listening to the tour guide. Very knowledgeable guide can tell a lot about the sculptor, his family, the history of this house.
With one of the architects of his residence Julius Pelican has been known since school of sculptors, which was located in Gorica. In Prague the way Josef Stepanek and Pelican dispersed. First decided to become an architect, and the second continued to learn the art of stonemasons. Even in the Academy of arts Josef Stepanek, he showed his talent, even then, he predicted a great future. In the development of their architectural masterpieces he used his experience of working with small forms. For my friend Julia Pelican Stepanek decided to build a house consisting of several cubes. Conservative society of Olomouc did not understand the ideas of the architect and condemned the appearance of this Villa near presentable classical buildings. But now this Villa, which also worked Bohuslav Fuchs, is one of the attractions of the city.
During the German occupation of the Czech Republic, many wealthy villas have lost their owners. The heirs of the Pelican were arrested for participating in the resistance, his wife was a Jew sent to Auschwitz. The Communists also did not stop shadowing unreliable, in their view, the Villa owners.
Now we see just the house where he once lived and worked as a talented man, very much for his city and country.
