Villa Otto Zweig Photo: Villa Otto Zweig

The story of the Olomouc Villa, which belonged to Otto Zweig and called his name, very interesting. The plot, which in the future was built this mansion in 1916 he purchased a couple of Constantive. Herman and Adele was planning to build on a small platform adjacent to the city Park, private residence, which appealed to the young architect Paulo Engelmann, which specialized in designing comfortable villas. Engelmann gladly took the job and was attracted to the idea of his teacher Adolf Loos. The facade of the mansion Constantive on the idea of the creators, was to be decorated with quotes from literary works. The inner space of the Villa was open and not alternated partitions. Loos, so I wanted to bring to life his idea to create Raumplan – continuous space. For some reason the house was not built. Most likely, the spouses Constantive just don't have enough money, because, in the end, they got rid of the plot in the city. A place to call home purchased Lord Zweig.

Otto Zweig, a distant relative of the writer Stefan Zweig, born in Prostějov in a rich merchant family, which was engaged in the brewing. He married Anna Passovoy, whose father also kept brewing factory, but in Olomouc. Son-in-law decided to move closer to the father-in-law.

The main entrance of the Villa Zweig, built in the classical style by the architect Franz Kuna, crowns the portico with a balcony, decorated in Imperial style and decorated with stucco. The first floor is divided into two areas by a long corridor. In the yard there was a garden, which was accessed by stairs from the back of the house.

Villa Otto Zweig is an elegant, functional, comfortable mansion, something reminiscent of the rural estates of the Czech Republic.

Zweig died during the war in the camp of terezín. Their son died in Buchenwald.
