The area of Christiania, or Market square got its name in 1958 in honor of the Danish and Norwegian king Christian IV, the founder of Oslo, the design of which he was involved personally. By its decision the city was surrounded by ramparts and a single defensive belt along with the Akershus fortress. A distinctive feature of the new city was perpendicular streets. However, the most important and significant decision to ban Christian IV for the erection of wooden buildings, in order to avoid the risk of fire, capable of destroying a city.

The area of Christiania is one of the most visited tourist places in Oslo. In its center is the famous fountain by sculptor Gulbrandsen in the form of gloves of king Christian IV, indicating the place where there should be founded a new city. There are historical buildings, for example, multi-colored Manor of Councilman (Ratnam – elected member of the Council), which houses the Association of artists in Oslo. Opposite the Old town hall, the building which housed the Theatre Museum and a restaurant.

In 1990, after it was completed the construction of a road tunnel, the area of Christiania from the square with the eternal traffic jams became quiet and cozy place with a restaurant verandas, inspired by the breath XVII.
