The composition of Ostrava extras includes two areas which are called Moravian Ostrava and the Silesian Ostrava. By a strange coincidence, these areas are located the Church with the same name – the churches of St. Joseph. This fact is not due to poor imagination of the inhabitants of these areas, and the fact that earlier and Moravian, and Silesian Ostrava were independent settlements and, therefore, could name their churches so, as it wants to the people and the priests.

The Church of St Joseph in Silesian Ostrava executed in a late Baroque style. It was erected in place of old wooden Church of St. George in the years 1780-1783. The main altar of the Church was decorated with sculptures of the virgin and Child.

In 1913, the Church wanted to close because of the threat of its destruction. As a result coal mines in the neighborhood of the soil under the Church dropped to 8 meters. But technical progress has reached such a level that it was possible to try to strengthen the design of the Church and thus to save it. During repair works were used the most modern materials: details of reinforced concrete, frame of iron supported by sturdy ropes. St Joseph's Church was reopened in 1929.

Next to it you can see the tower, also built of iron. To secure the entire structure reinforced with a layer of hollow bricks.
