The foro Italico is one of embankments Palermo, stretching from Cala to street of via Giulia in the Kalsa quarter. With 1734 1860 years it was called the Foro Borbonico named ruled over Sicily the Bourbon dynasty, and after the unification of Italy in 1860 received its current name. Before World war II, the sea came right up to the modern streets. Directly in the conflict during the air raids on the city by the Germans, and the Americans, some parts of the port and the historic centre of Palermo were destroyed. After the war most of the wreckage was brought here, so the sea retreated and the waterfront, and has expanded. For many years the area remained abandoned and untended. Then stayed here traveling circuses, and for some time at this place was Luna Park. And only in the late 1990s – early 2000-ies was a full restoration zone, which has turned into one of the most popular of the city's waterfront.

The decision to convert an abandoned area in walking territory was made on the eve of the UN conference on the fight against organized crime, held in Palermo in December 2000. At the Grand opening of the promenade, designed by architect Carmelo Bostinto, was attended by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Today walking the Foro Italico, with its extensive green areas is about 40 thousand square meters of the alley, benches, ceramic sculptures, bike paths, night illumination and a beautiful view – all that daily attracts hundreds of people wishing to relax and enjoy the sea.
