Pitiunt is the ancient city of ancient times, once located on Cape Pitsunda in Abkhazia. Pitsunda the complex is now part of the historical-architectural reserve "Great Pitiunt". Three-aisled, cruciform in plan the architecture of the temple and today impresses the tourists and the faithful. As a result of excavations in the beginning of this century the complex was opened by the foundations of the residence of the Bishop of Pitsunda, which Chronicles participated in the First Ecumenical Council of Nicea of 325. Fortress wall surrounding the complex, many times rebuilt and strengthened, the last time was during the invasion of the Turks in the fourteenth century.

Another excursion of the complex stands today, the current chapel of the eighteenth century, the ancient stone dolmen - sarcophagus for burial and, of course, unique-sounding and highest authority, the third largest in the former Soviet Union. In addition, the complex houses the Museum of the history of Pitsunda, after seeing the exhibition which you can get a vivid idea of the rich history of the region.
