The Estonian road Museum is a specialized Museum, created with the purpose of acquaintance with the history of roads not only with scientific and educational, but also entertaining points of view. The Museum was founded by the Department of roads. The road, which is an important part of civilization, is so familiar to us that we think no more about her than about the air you breathe.

The first expressed the idea of creating a legendary road Museum road worker to the AAD lass. The establishment of this institution began in the late 1990-ies. The site of the future Museum was chosen as the post office Verbose, built in 1863. Once at the postal station Verbose was stable at 33 horses, and worked a regular mail service between Tartu and võru.

The postal station complex is an architectural monument and is under state protection. It consists of 5 buildings, built of cobblestone and red brick. So, to the Museum includes the main building and a carriage shed, renovated in 2001, in 2004, was updated stable, and in 2005 underwent the restoration of the blacksmith shop and dwelling for coachmen and Shornikov. All the listed buildings connects a stone wall, forming, thus, a courtyard. In the hangar, built in 2003, are cars that traveled the roads of Estonia, and also the technique through which these roads have been laid.

The first step to creation of the Museum, was the approval of the Board of the Museum. The Board first met on 15 December 2000. This date is considered the birthday of the road Museum. Thanks to the efforts of the first Director of the Museum of the Marga Rennet, the school was opened on 6 June 2005.

In the former postal station, you can ride a unique postal carriage drawn by 2 beautiful horses. So you get an idea about the feelings of the heroes of old adventure books and movies in those days, when the main means of transportation were the postal carriages. Shaking and turbulence in the carriage, of course, difficult to compare with riding in a comfortable modern car, but certainly worth a try in this small trip.

The Museum has a stretch of road, passing through which you can dip in different eras. The road starts from Gati (wooden flooring through a flooded area or swamp) and ends with the asphalt. Along the roadside you will be accompanied by a changing living environment of the past centuries.
