National Museum in Poznan (folk Museum) is a state cultural institution, one of the largest museums in Poland. Here is a rich collection of Polish painting since the 16th century, as well as a large collection of Italian and Dutch paintings. In 2005, the national Museum was entered in the register of museums.

National Museum in Poznan was established in 1857, the Society "Friends of science" as a Museum of Polish and Slavic antiquities. Its appearance of the Museum's major benefactor Severin Milanskom who donated a large collection of paintings and purchased land for the needs of the Museum. The Grand opening of the Museum took place in 1882.

Later, in Poznan was founded by the German Museum. It was opened in 1894 and was named the Provincial Museum, but in 1902 was renamed the Museum of Emperor Friedrich III.

In 1919, after the restoration of Poland's independence, there was the actual merger of the two museums. Eventually, the Museum was divided into three branches: a Gallery of painting and sculpture, Archaeological Museum, Museum of natural history. Currently, the National Museum also include: Museum of applied arts, Ethnographical Museum, Museum of the history of poznaƄ and the Museum of musical instruments.

During the Second world war the building was damaged, and the collection was partially destroyed. In 2001, the Museum opened a new wing devoted to the collection of painting and sculpture.

The Museum's collection is divided into seven themed galleries: gallery of antiquity, the middle ages, the Polish art of the 16th-18th centuries, the gallery of European art, modern art gallery, the gallery of Polish art of the Second world war, and the Department of graphic design and posters.
