The Palace Zalinski – Baroque Palace, built in the years 1773-1776, is located in the centre of poznań. Currently, the Palace houses a library.
The Palace, richly decorated with stucco works and classical sculptures on the façade, originally belonged to Vladislav Gurovsky - commander of Lithuania and the speaker of the Lithuanian court. In 1808, the Palace became the property of the family Zalinski, in whose hands he remained until 1880. After the death of the last Zalinskogo - political and public figure, who had no heirs, the Palace was bought by the Polish activist władysław Zamoyski.
During the annexation, the Palace served as the center of cultural and political life of the Polish part of society. Here, in the Red hall in 1830, 1848 and 1863 meetings were held concerning the fight against the rebels. In the same building were concerts and staged Amateur theatrical performances. In addition, in the Palace of lectures by eminent professors: Charles Libelt (aesthetics), August Cieszkowski (philosophy), Theophilos Mateki (chemistry and physics), James Krotovskaya (right). In the reborn Poland in 1934 by efforts of the local branch of the Union of Polish writers in the Palace Zalinski were organized literary Thursdays.
During the fighting in 1945, the building burned down. It was reconstructed in 1957 by architect Alexander of Holas. All the sculptures again took their places on the facade of the building, including the figure of a Pelican, symbol of femininity and dedication.
The most beautiful room in the building – the Red room - located on the first floor.
In the rear of the Palace is a historical garden, founded in the late 18th century. French garden with exotic trees and a pond in the centre was badly damaged during the war, but later was restored. Currently the garden is closed to the public.
