One of the natural attractions of Primorsky Krai is amazing far Eastern marine reserve. The reserve was established in March 1978 for educational activities and research work.
The marine reserve is divided into four sections: three of them are in the Khasansky district of Primorsky Krai and one in the Pervomaisky district of Vladivostok, on the Popov island. In addition, for a fixed reserve of the island, some parts of the mainland shoreline and adjacent waters, with an area of about 64316 ha. Maritime borders of the far Eastern marine reserve surrounds the marine conservation zone.
Far Eastern marine reserve is a standard unique coastal, island and marine wildlife in southern Primorye. In the reserve there are more than 5,000 species of plants and animals.
Flora marine reserve consists of 706 species of plants. In the upper layers of water are abundant in the phytoplankton. Dominant are 11 species of diatoms that serve the cause of "bloom" of water. The calcareous algae dominated on the rocky places, the habitats of sea stars, urchins and mussels. Vegetation on Islands marine reserve varies and depends on the size of the island, environmental conditions and anthropogenic influence. But despite this, on all the Islands you can find such plants as sedges of Kobomugi, Japanese chin, glenio seaside, amodini (long-tailed duck), Senecio learnology, the grass leymus seaside and others.
Quite a variety and is the marine fauna of the far East of the reserve. In Peter the Great Bay from marine invertebrates is dominated by such small animals as setencodingstyle, various crustaceans, insects, appendicularia, ctenophores, jellyfish and salpy. In the intertidal zone is dominated by isopods crabs, polychaete worms, many bivalves and gastropods.
Of marine mammals in the marine reserve is home to rare species of calf. In the coastal buffer zone can meet the Amur forest cat, Siberian tiger, leopard, black vulture, white-tailed eagle and Steller's sea eagle.
