Photo: Krimml waterfalls
The famous Krimml waterfalls are located in the North-Western part of the National Park Hohe Tauern on the border between Salzburg and Tyrol 55 km from Zell-am-Zee. Waterfalls forms a stream of Krimmler-AKHE, the current of the same glacier with an altitude of 3 thousand meters. Water rushes with three steps (total height of 380 metres). In winter the waterfalls freeze.
Rushing mass of water split into a myriad of spray, so the air is constantly moist. This creates favorable conditions for the growth of many species of rare mosses. So, for example, the gray stones in the crevices of the rocks grows glowing moss that has the ability to reflect light.
