Monument Photo: the Monument "Stone of reconciliation"

"Stone of reconciliation" - it's a memorial, which opened in Sevastopol in 1994, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the end of the Crimean war. The monument was erected on the place where was located the fourth English redoubt.

The Crimean war lasted three years, from 1853 to 1856. Major military action took place in Sevastopol, the Russian army was opposed by a powerful coalition of England, France, Turkey, the Kingdom of Sardinia. Monument "Stone of reconciliation" is a symbol of unity of the peoples and the heroic defense of Sevastopol ordinary citizens and sailors for 369 days.

Monument "Stone of reconciliation" was established by order of the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma. At its opening, invited a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II with his wife - the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Russian Ambassador to Ukraine, Leonid Smolyakov, France - Michel Yves Pasika, Italy - Vittorio Surdo, Turkey Adjara of German, England - S. Himansu.

"Stone of reconciliation" is a rough-hewn stone brought from the city cemetery, mounted on a square pedestal. A small plate on the stone reads: "In memory of all those who died in the Crimean war, and for lasting peace between their descendants." The inscription is made in Russian and English.
